It took me a while to get into this today。 But I ended up blasting through it quite quickly。 I loved it。 A short and sweet and spooky adventure perfect for this time of year。 Not quite as chilling as the first one。 But a bit more emotional and some great magic。

This didn’t quite spook me as much as the first book, but I still loved it。 I love Aveline and Harold。 the writing was fantastic once again with an engaging story to match。 This is becoming one of my favorite middle grade series, can’t wait for the next!

Right from the first page it was so wonderful to be hanging out with Aveline again。 I have missed her。 Of course the wait for the next one began the second I finished this one。I can’t tell you how much I loved being with Aveline again but I have to try because that’s the purpose of this review。 I feel like Aveline has grown up a little bit since the first book but not too much so that she has lost her fearlessness。 I’m a scaredy cat so I need my friends to do the brave things for me。 I do think Right from the first page it was so wonderful to be hanging out with Aveline again。 I have missed her。 Of course the wait for the next one began the second I finished this one。I can’t tell you how much I loved being with Aveline again but I have to try because that’s the purpose of this review。 I feel like Aveline has grown up a little bit since the first book but not too much so that she has lost her fearlessness。 I’m a scaredy cat so I need my friends to do the brave things for me。 I do think of Aveline as my friend I hope she doesn’t mind。Aveline is still young enough to be brave and feel untouchable but she’s grown enough to also approach situations she wouldn’t have before。 The events in the first book very much came to her but this time she had to go a little further out for the big moments。 And luckily she took me with her。 I was completely swept up in this story。 I felt the chills, I heard the glass breaking, I saw what Aveline saw。 That’s how wonderful the story telling is。 I forgot I was reading a book。 I was right there by Aveline’s side or maybe actually stood back a bit because you know fear。Being in my 30’s I’m probably closer in age to Aveline’s mom and auntie but Aveline and that adorable Harold are the ones I find myself most enthralled by。 And just like with The Haunting of Aveline Jones if you are their age then you are going to absolutely find what you are looking for in this book! 。。。more

The second book in the Aveline Jones series, and it did not disappoint! 4。5?! I love this series and I hope it goes on forever haha today was dark and stormy and absolutely perfect to read this! I took it out of the package and started reading it immediately, which I usually don't do。。but I've been excited for this one since I finished the first book and saw the cover for this one at the back 😳 apparently, creepy middle grade is now my thing。 It was good to see Harold again! I really like the balance of technology and adventure, if that makes sense? Like Aveline and 4。5?! I really like the balance of technology and adventure, if that makes sense? Like Aveline and Harold text and facetime, but they prefer looking up local legends and ancient knowledge in books。 Idk what I'm trying to say。 It's a nice blend, and makes it totally believable that magic and supernatural things happen all the time in these creepy little English towns haha。 Again the atmosphere was perfect for the story and the writing was descriptive enough that I could imagine everything, but not so descriptive that it was distracting。 Is that what I said about the first book too? I might've lol Also, I thought I knew what was going on but I kind of didn't?! And it was wonderful?! I love being surprised by how things play out, especially as an adult reading middle grade ☺️ A vague comparison so I don't spoil anything。。。You know how sometimes you get a really sour grape in a bunch, and you're worried the whole bunch will be sour, but you keep eating and realize it's only the one? Just one bad grape。 I'm glad the author presented a whole bunch of perfectly lovely grapes with just one sour one。 There are all different kinds of grapes, and every now and then, you get a bad one。 But grapes aren't inherently bad。 *ahem* that's all。 Lol。 VERY happy my pre-order arrived this month so I could use it for the magical readathon: a thriller or mystery。 Lots of mysterious happenings in the life of Aveline Jones 😁🖤 。。。more

Phil Hickes first introduced readers to Aveline Jones - lover of ghosts, ghouls and all things supernatural - in September 2020。 After what has seemed like an impossibly long wait for a sequel, Aveline is back in another irresistibly creepy middle-grade adventure that will put the frighteners on the bravest of souls。Whilst not her perfect summer holiday, Aveline is excited to be spending a few days in the small village of Norton Wick as she will be able to explore an ancient stone circle that sh Phil Hickes first introduced readers to Aveline Jones - lover of ghosts, ghouls and all things supernatural - in September 2020。 After what has seemed like an impossibly long wait for a sequel, Aveline is back in another irresistibly creepy middle-grade adventure that will put the frighteners on the bravest of souls。Whilst not her perfect summer holiday, Aveline is excited to be spending a few days in the small village of Norton Wick as she will be able to explore an ancient stone circle that she has read about in a book。The Witch Stones are the stuff of legend in the sleepy countryside village and Aveline is thrilled to meet the uber-cool, care-free, wildly unpredictable and mysterious Hazel who has all all sorts of secrets and stories about them。 But Hazel has her own dangerous secret and Aveline needs to find out what it is before it is too late…This is a proper spine-tingling, goose-bump inducing read for readers aged nine and up。 Those who want a read that takes them out of their comfort zone, will have them watching over their shoulder and sleeping with the light on won’t want to miss this one (for those that scare easily it is one that is probably best to avoid)。Phil Hickes had me bewitched from the first page, so much so that I was unable to put it down and I read it in one rather nerve-shredding afternoon。 I was partly desperate to discover what would happen next but also keen to escape the eerie village of Norton Wick and be able to get a good night’s sleep without thoughts of witchcraft, Witch Stones and witch bottles inhabiting my dreams。 Held in an uneasy suspense for all two-hundred-and-fifty-six pages, it is safe to say I was completely gripped by this tension-filled and atmospheric read。Sinister goings-on, a dangerous friendship and learning to trust your instincts are just some of the things waiting in store for Aveline in the village of Norton Wick where things are definitely not as they seem。 You’ll need your protective charms at the ready as Aveline’s fascination for all things supernatural takes a rather dark and sinister turn as she finds herself engaging with the world of witchcraft in a village steeped in historical folklore and superstition。 Add in tales from the past, unsettling encounters, dangerous magic, secret messages and witchcraft and even the bravest of readers will be left with racing hearts and cold chills。Creepy and thrilling from beginning to end, Hickes will have many a reader under his spell as his compelling and bewitching story unfolds。 You can never shake the feeling that everything is not quite as it should be and, just like Aveline, I had the over-whelming feeling that I was being watched - never a good thing。 Adding to the mood and not doing anything to warm the chills down the spine are sinister quotes at the beginning of each chapter and haunting illustrations by Keith Robinson。Middle-grade horror writing at its very best, just be sure not to fall under Hazel’s spell。 Not for the faint-hearted。Recommended for 9+。 。。。more

I loved the first Aveline Jones book, so jumped at the chance to read book two a little early, and I was not disappointed in the slightest! I can't write a review without mentioning the gorgeous illustrations throughout。 Keith Robinson does the perfect job of helping drop you in the story, the beady eyed magpie for example, keeping a close eye on you at the turn of every chapter。 The covers of both books have also been absolute perfection, and I love the blue colour thats been used for the sequel。 Another wonderful trip with Aveline, and I was thrilled to get to the end and find out there is indeed going to be a third book。 I'll now go back to eagerly waiting for the next instalment。 Highly recommend both these books to anyone who enjoys a little bit of spook in their stories, they are the perfect October reads! 。。。more

My Rating: 3。75You can read my full review here。If you liked reading The Wicked Deep, you might not want to miss this one。 The Bewitching Of Aveline Jones was spooky, chilling, and fascinating。 The illustrations were an added bonus to the reader, elevating the dark aura of the story and served as a guide to know the place and characters graphically。 The witch trials might have been in the 1600s, but their echoes are still heard through myths and legends to date。 Highly recommend it if you’re My Rating: 3。75You can read my full review here。If you liked reading The Wicked Deep, you might not want to miss this one。 The Bewitching Of Aveline Jones was spooky, chilling, and fascinating。 The illustrations were an added bonus to the reader, elevating the dark aura of the story and served as a guide to know the place and characters graphically。 The witch trials might have been in the 1600s, but their echoes are still heard through myths and legends to date。 Highly recommend it if you’re looking for a short, fast-paced horror story。(I received a free DRC of this book in exchange for an honest review。 Thanks a ton to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for this copy。)BLOG • INSTAGRAM • TWITTER • PINTEREST 。。。more

Oh, how I wish I would have had Aveline Jones on my bookshelf when I was younger。 Adventure, mystery, folklore, witchcraft, sleepovers, fish and chips! - it’s got everything that a 10-year-old me would have absolutely adored。 Aveline and her mum have come away to Norton Wick for their summer holiday。 Their cottage sits beside an ancient stone circle that the villagers refer to as the Witch Stones, and she is looking forward to learning more about them。 “Ghosts, ghouls and witches (are), of cours Oh, how I wish I would have had Aveline Jones on my bookshelf when I was younger。 Adventure, mystery, folklore, witchcraft, sleepovers, fish and chips! - it’s got everything that a 10-year-old me would have absolutely adored。 Aveline and her mum have come away to Norton Wick for their summer holiday。 Their cottage sits beside an ancient stone circle that the villagers refer to as the Witch Stones, and she is looking forward to learning more about them。 “Ghosts, ghouls and witches (are), of course, her specialist subject。” She soon bumps into a rather strange girl called Hazel。 Unpredictable and overly friendly, mysterious and impossibly cool, Aveline instantly falls under her spell and is even willing to ditch her friend, Harold, just to spend more time with her。 But it doesn’t take long for Aveline to start becoming suspicious of her new friend。 Can she really perform magic? How does she know so much about the Witch Stones? Where does she keep disappearing to? What on earth does she have against Alice, the local vicar? With beautiful illustrations by Keith Robinson, The Bewitching of Aveline Jones is a captivating read which manages to feel summery and spooky at the same time。 At 256 pages you’ll want to finish it in one sitting, but you might want to sleep with the light on when you’re done! It’s the perfect story to read by torchlight。 Keep your eyes peeled for events, writing competitions and a social media read-along in September。 In the meantime, pick up your copy of The Haunting of Aveline Jones to introduce yourself to this “deliciously spine-tingling” new series。 。。。more
